Religion News Service interviewed Rev. Dr. Leah Schade, Associate Professor of Preaching and Worship at Lexington Theological Seminary, about how pastors can handle post-election anxiety and grief. RNS cited Schade for re-
commending the same do’s and don’ts for sermons during “very fraught, very fractious” election seasons since 2016.
Schade said focusing on the message that “all people are created in God’s image,” no matter who they vote for, will do, as will recalling the need to keep everyone safe or being careful with what we say. But it is important for clergy to speak up.
“If we don’t say anything, that unintentionally sends a message that the Bible and our faith has nothing to say about these issues that are going to impact the children, teens, families, seniors, adults, and our congregations for generations to come,” said Schade.
